Butterflies Lighting the Way

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: those that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined” (Isaiah 9:2).

I love candles! In these days of electricity, candles have become a decoration, bringing warmth and atmosphere to our homes. But during electric power outages I am reminded that our great-great grandparents depended on candles having no electric light. When our electric power returns, the light of the candles can hardly be seen yet their light continues to bring warmth to the room and for a short time, I am reminded of their importance when our electricity fails.

Our culture has forgotten the desperate spiritual darkness which exists without Jesus. We have found other sources of light provided by the one who presents himself as the “angel of light.” The light of God through Christ Jesus in every believer may seem dim in the face of so many distractions and the other power sources our culture depends on. Churches decorate the landscape where I live, adding to the atmosphere and giving a warm glow at Christmas time – but the power hidden within is not seen until there is a crisis and other power sources fail.

When things go wrong in people’s lives and the source of light they have relied on goes out, they are plunged into the darkness of sickness, broken hearts, fear and bondage. That is an opportunity for the light of Jesus Christ in us to shine brightly. As our world plunges into deeper darkness, those in pain will be drawn to a church or a believer whose light shines like a candle in their darkness. When the Church is removed, the light will be gone…now is the time to let our light shine as a beacon bringing others to Jesus.

Praise God, through your partnership, our Butterflies have been shining the light of Jesus into the darkness and brokenness of women’s lives in India, S.E Asia, Europe, Africa, North, South and Central America.

May your light so shine before men this Christmas and every day! Merry Christmas and Blessings to You and Yours!
